"He, who knows how to listen, hears wisdom.
He, who does not know how to listen, hears only noise."
Chinese saying.

The thyroid gland is the largest gland in the endocrine system. It is located under the larynx (voice box) and wraps around the top of the trachea (windpipe). It produces a number of hormones that are essential and production can be hampered by a number of conditions. The main thyroid hormone is thyroxine, also called T4.

HYPOTHYROIDISM is the insufficient production of hormones.

HYPERTHYROIDISM is the over production of hormones.

THYROID NODULES are a localized swelling in the thyroid gland and may be cysts filled with fluid, a benign Adenoma, a slow growing Adenoma or a cancerous nodule.

Clusters of nodules form a GOITER.

THYROID CANCER can develop in one or both sides of the thyroid lobes.

THYROIDITIS is an inflammation of the thyroid gland. The most common form is Hashimoto Thyroiditis which causes the gland to be less efficient and ultimately to enlarge. Hypothyroidism may result.

DE QUERVAIN DISEASE causes the gland to swell rapidly and become tender and painful. Hyperthyroidism then sets in.

GRAVES DISEASE, is a form of hyperthyroidism.

CONGENITAL HYPOTHYROIDISM affects a small number of babies who are born either without a thyroid or with a partly formed thyroid.

The main causes of thyroid conditions include: viral infections, autoimmune disease, radiation treatments, certain medications and pituitary gland problems. In the old days, iodine was added to salt to keep it from clumping and that was sufficient iodine for most people. Many manufacturers have discontinued the practice and to some degree it mirrors the increase in hypothyroid conditions. Look for iodized salt when you shop for groceries.

The hormones produced by the thyroid gland are involved in many aspects of growth, development, use of energy, stay warm and keeping the brain, heart, muscles and other organs working as they should. A normal thyroid is essential to normal, everyday functions and activities.

Traditional treatment includes medications, radiation, surgery and hormone replacement (sometimes for life).

Medicine cures three tenths, diet cures seven tenths.
From China

Soy products like tofu and soymilk, etc can help mildly stimulate thyroid function. For an overactive thyroid eat turnips, mustard greens, broccoli, cabbage, rutabaga, brussel sprouts, bok choy, cress, cauliflower, kale and kohlrabi.

For overall health improvement in order to cut down on meds and OTC products you need to add Kombucha, a fermented tea to your diet.

Our NATURAL & ALTERNATIVE HEALING RESOURCE DIRECTORY provides information on great products and where to buy them that specifically target many of the conditions that affect "modern man" today.  Drinking Kombucha on a regular basis also may very well be the most important thing you can do to regain and maintain good health.

This ain't yo mama's tea

Kombu. .  what, you might ask.
What is it?

It is an Oriental fermented tea remedy that can be traced back to 400 B.C. where it originated in what is known today as Korea. It is perfectly safe and is used today by 500 million people around the world. Emperors, Czars and even an American President have used the tea. The President in the 1980/s was being treated for Cancer and was having metastases (spreading of cancer cells). A culture was brought in from Japan and incorporated into his treatment. He survived and lived into his nineties.

It wasn't until 1993 that Kombucha was introduced to the American public. Today, over 3,000,000 Americans drink Kombucha on a regular basis.

Dr. Rudolph Sklenar of Germany was a G.P. He is quoted as saying "Every chronic disease including cancer is preceded by a general ailment of that organism, resulting mainly from a metabolic malfunction. This triggers and increasing accumulation of waste material in the body and creates the ideal environment where a virus can develop."

One might think of Kombucha as a microbiological digestive aid. Bacinskaya established in 1914 the Kombucha beverage was effective in regulating the activity of the intestinal tract. In 1944 Dr. H. Irion ran a college for chemists. He recommended Kombucha's use for all aging problems and intestinal disorders.

Kombucha seems to be the biological equivalent of STP gas treatment, carburetor cleaner and radiator flush all rolled into one. It works at the cellular and molecular level pulling the toxins out. Glucuronic acid (GA) then binds toxins in the liver which are then eliminated via your urine. Toxins bound by GA cannot be reabsorbed by the intestines or the urinary system. This detoxification and flushing promotes a healthier bladder, liver and pancreas.

Several important acids are in properly fermented Kombucha which coupled with balanced pH create a hostile environment for pathogens. If pathogens can't thrive and multiply there is less chance of infections.

It also contains lactic acid and acetic acid which deter the growth of harmful bacteria Since it aids healthy digestion, the nutrients in food and drink are more readily available for the rest of the body to utilize in performing the body's normal functions, hence more energy.

Kombucha sometimes enhances the effectiveness of other medications and it is important to keep your health provider informed so dosage can be adjusted if needed.

Kombucha by itself doesn't cure anything.
It simply nourishes at the cellular level so that your marvelous body can heal itself.

It costs only about $5 a month since you brew the tea yourself. About 1 or 2 hours a month is needed for the brewing and cleanup. It's also simple. If you can bake a Duncan Hines cake then you too can be a Master Brewmeister.
